Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Captain Tabs handles information when you use the Chrome extension and related website pages.

Effective date: March 18, 2026

1. Overview

Captain Tabs is a Chrome extension designed to help users organize tabs, save and restore sessions, create tab groups, manage tab notes, apply tab rules, and control tab-related settings.

2. Information We Process

Captain Tabs processes the following categories of information to provide its features:

  • Tab and session data, including tab URLs, page titles, tab groups, window state, pinned status, muted status, and session data.
  • Notes and organizational data you create in the extension, including tab notes, rules, workspaces, and preferences.
  • Account data used for authentication, including your email address and authentication-related data when you sign in or sign up.
  • Technical account session data, including access tokens, refresh tokens, subscription status, and related account state stored by the extension to keep you signed in.

3. How Information Is Used

Captain Tabs uses this information to:

  • Save, restore, and manage browser sessions and tab groups.
  • Store and display notes, rules, and preferences you create.
  • Provide account sign-in, sign-up, password reset, and account access features.
  • Check account profile and subscription status for feature access.
  • Support core tab-management functionality requested by the user.

4. Local Browser Storage

Most Captain Tabs data is stored locally in Chrome storage on your device. This includes session data, tab metadata, notes, rules, workspaces, usage-related app state, preferences, and authentication session data used by the extension.

Some settings and organizational preferences may also be stored using Chrome sync storage, which can sync through your Chrome profile according to Chrome's own functionality.

5. Account Authentication and Supabase

Captain Tabs uses Supabase for account authentication and account-related services. If you create an account or sign in, your email address and authentication-related data are processed by Supabase to provide sign-up, sign-in, password reset, and account access features.

Passwords are submitted to Supabase for authentication, but Captain Tabs does not store your password locally in the extension.

6. What Is Stored Remotely

Based on the current version of Captain Tabs, account-related data such as your email address, authentication records, and account profile or subscription status may be processed through Supabase.

Captain Tabs does not currently sync your tab/session data, notes, or tab organization data to our servers unless that behavior is clearly disclosed in a future update.

7. Data Sharing

Captain Tabs does not sell personal information.

Information may be processed by service providers that support the extension's functionality, such as Supabase for authentication and account services, or by browser platform services required for extension features.

We may also disclose information if required to comply with applicable law, enforce our rights, or protect the security of users or the service.

8. Data Retention

Locally stored extension data remains in your browser until you delete it, clear Chrome extension storage, or uninstall the extension.

Account and authentication-related data processed by Supabase may be retained according to Supabase configuration and applicable legal or operational requirements.

9. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect information handled by Captain Tabs. However, no method of storage, processing, or transmission is completely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

10. Your Choices

You may:

  • Stop using Captain Tabs at any time.
  • Delete saved sessions, notes, rules, and other locally stored extension data.
  • Sign out of your account.
  • Clear extension storage in Chrome or uninstall the extension.
  • Use password reset features if you need to change your account credentials.

11. Children's Privacy

Captain Tabs is not directed to children and is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children.

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. When updated, the revised version will be posted on this page along with the updated effective date.
